HC Deb 19 February 1941 vol 369 c156
55. Mr. Price

(for Mr. Jackson) asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware that a large multiple store in Birmingham called Lewis's, who in the past have not been sellers of rabbits for food, are now one of the largest, if not the largest, sellers of this commodity in the town, and that by allowing one firm to obtain such a large share of this commodity he is causing a great hardship to many small traders who have in the past sold this commodity as part of their ordinary trade; and will he, wherever unfair distribution is taking place in other towns, consider rationing them to the shops?

Major Lloyd George

Rabbits are controlled only in respect of the maximum wholesale and retail prices, and I see no reason to interfere with the trade in obtaining such supplies as are available.
