HC Deb 19 February 1941 vol 369 c133
9. Mr. Sloan

asked the Secretary of State for Air why the English firm of Wimpey's receive so many contracts in Scotland involving large sums of money; and whether he will undertake in future to arrange that Scottish firms carry out all work in Scotland?

Captain Balfour

The claims of Scottish firms to carry out contracts in Scotland and elsewhere are always fully considered; and of seven large contracts recently placed for building and civil engineering works in Scotland, six have been allotted to Scottish firms. The firm referred to has been allotted contracts by virtue of their favourable quotations and of their ability to complete urgent work to schedule.
