HC Deb 19 February 1941 vol 369 cc150-1
44. Mr. Stokes

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether, in view of the fact that the only way of retaining the wheat germ in flour is by grinding the wheat with mill-stones, he will take steps to encourage the immediate use and reconditioning of the maximum number of stone mills?

Major Lloyd George

My Noble Friend cannot agree that the only way of retaining the wheat germ in flour is by grinding with mill stones. Most proprietary brown flours, produced by roller milling, contain as high a percentage of wheat germ as stone-ground flours. As regards the last part of his Question I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given by my hon. Friend the Secretary to the Department of Overseas Trade to the hon. Member for London University (Sir E. Graham-Little) on 22nd January last.

Mr. Stokes

If I send the hon. and gallant Gentleman full technical information which shows entirely the contrary to what he says, will he have it fully examined?

Major Lloyd George

I am always glad to accept any technical information from hon. Members.
