HC Deb 19 February 1941 vol 369 c159
64. Mr. Simmonds

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is prepared to arrange that companies which owe Excess Profits Tax will not be pressed for payment in cases where the companies can show that such payment would cause them serious embarrassment owing to their own accounts with Governmnet Departments being overdue for payment?

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Captain Crookshank)

I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply which my hon. Friend the Member for Tamworth (Sir J. Mellor) was given on 28th November last.

Mr. Simmonds

Whatever that Reply was, can my right hon. and gallant Friend say that in the next few weeks he will see that the authorities treat these people a little more fairly than they have done in the past?

Captain Crookshank

I think my hon. Friend had better see what the Reply was.
