HC Deb 19 February 1941 vol 369 c154
51. Mr. Lyons

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food what steps are being taken to develop a system of communal restaurants in London; and whether he will consider the acquisition of suitable empty premises in various parts of London for this purpose forthwith?

Major Lloyd George

The London County Council already have a well-developed system of community restaurants in London which are known as the "Londoners' Meal Service ". This service has about 150 centres, and further centres are opened by the London County Council as required.

Mr. Lyons

Would my hon. and gallant Friend consider taking over some of the communal restaurants which are outside the London County Council's control, seeing that they are now open to the public as general restaurants?

Major Lloyd George

I will look into that matter.
