HC Deb 13 February 1941 vol 368 cc1519-20
46. Mr. Gallacher

asked the Prime Minister on how many occasions warnings have been issued, either by letter or verbally, to representatives of newspapers since the beginning of 1940, that their conduct was considered as inimical to the war effort; and how many newspapers have received such warnings?

Mr. Attlee

I am not prepared to add anything to the reply which my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister gave to my hon. Friend the Member for East Wolverhampton (Mr. Mander) on 6th February last.

Mr. Gallacher

Are we to understand, from the attitude adopted by the Government, that no newspaper is to be allowed to carry on a policy directed against the Government or the general war policy of the Government?
