§ 69. Mr. Sorensenasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prosecutions took place during 1940 respecting excessive speed in the 20 miles per hour limit area during the black-out?
§ The Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. Peake)From 1st February, when the speed limit was introduced, until 31st December, 1940, the number in the Metropolitan Police District was 2,543. I regret that figures for other parts of the country are not available.
§ Mr. SorensenIs the hon. Gentleman personally satisfied that this very necessary speed limit is being observed by the great majority of motorists?
§ Mr. PeakeI think the figures which I have quoted show that the police are making every effort to enforce this speed limit.
