HC Deb 06 February 1941 vol 368 c1085
4. Mr. Parker

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that there is a widespread feeling that the basis of the present cost-of-living index is out of date and particularly unsatisfactory in wartime; and whether a new basis will now be adopted following the recent family budget inquiry?

Mr. Assheton

The publication of the information given in the budgets obtained is not yet completed. When this has reached a more advanced stage my right hon. Friend proposes to consider the whole question in consultation with the Advisory Committee which was appointed in connection with this inquiry.
