HC Deb 17 December 1941 vol 376 cc1928-9
33. Major Milner

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he is aware that naval officers stationed ashore at Malta do not draw the necessary colonial allowance as do officers of the Army, Royal Air Force and dockyard; what recommendations have been received in favour of such an allowance; and why are air naval officers thus discriminated against?

Sir V. Warrender

I am glad to say that the position mentioned by my hon. and gallant Friend has recently ceased to exist. A colonial allowance designed to place all naval officers stationed ashore in Malta on a similar footing to Army and Royal Air Force officers has been granted with effect from 1st October, 1940.
