HC Deb 11 December 1941 vol 376 cc1651-2
69. Mr. R. C. Morrison

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether women Civil servants between 20 and 30 years of age who desire to join the Auxiliary Territorial Service can obtain permission to do so?

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Captain Crookshank)

Arrangements are at present being made to release for the Women's Forces and for vital war industry a proportion of the women Civil servants between the ages of 20 and 30 who are engaged on clerical work. The methods by which different Departments will select the women to be released will vary at the discretion of Departments, according to the needs of the work, but, as far as possible, women in the grades concerned will be allowed to volunteer. The question which Services women who volunteer will be allowed to join is one for my right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour.
