HC Deb 11 December 1941 vol 376 c1652
12. Sir Francis Fremantle

asked the Minister of Labour whether he has considered the adoption by medical boards of X-ray examination for tuberculosis of every recruit, in the light of American experience, and in the interest of those found to be affected and of Exchequer liabilities?

Mr. Bevin

Yes, Sir. This suggestion was fully considered last year by the Medical Advisory Committee under the chairmanship of Lord Horder, and the Committee decided that its adoption was impracticable. I am advised that this is still the case.

Sir F. Fremantle

Can my right hon. Friend explain why it was found practicable in America but not here?

Mr. Bevin

I understand that at the time it was a question of preparing a complete supply of equipment.
