HC Deb 11 December 1941 vol 376 cc1658-9
44. Major Lyons

asked the Minister of Health what alterations he now proposes to make in the completion of national registration identity cards either by way of insisting on more particulars, or as to present or changed occupation of the holder or otherwise?

The Minister of Health (Mr. Ernest Brown)

No extension is at present contemplated of the particulars required to be entered upon the ordinary standard identity card. These particulars do not include any statement of the holder's occupation.

Major Lyons

In view of the opportunities for evasion and abuse, will the right hon. Gentleman make such alteration as will provide a check and assist the National Service effort?

Mr. Brown

My predecessor and I have looked at that closely and I made a very long statement last July.

Major Lyons

As this still permits evasion to take place will the right hon. Gentleman reconsider an overhaul of the whole system in the light of present needs?
