asked the Minister of Health whether he is now in a position to make a statement as to the safety, soundness and durability of tinned foods?

I am in consultation with my right hon. and Noble Friend the Minister of Food about this matter, and we hope that a statement will be published shortly.

Does not my right hon. Friend agree that it would be better if an authoritative statement could be made as soon as possible, in view of the fact that large supplies are coming in from America and elsewhere and the anxiety of the public to know exactly what is the position?

Mr. Brown

My Noble Friend is quite aware of that.

Is not my right hon. Friend aware that durability is not a good quality in meat?
