HC Deb 04 December 1941 vol 376 c1249
45. Mr. Mander

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the broadcast made by Field-Marshal Smuts, the Prime Minister of South Africa, on 2nd November, in which he said that the case of the Balfour Declaration had become overwhelmingly stronger, the British Government will make a similar declaration?

The Lord Privy Seal (Mr. Attlee)

No, Sir. I do not think that it is necessary for His Majesty's Government to make any further statement of policy on Palestine.

Mr. Mander

Is there not a common British foreign policy in the Commonwealth of Nations on matters of this kind, and do not the British Government stand by the Balfour Declaration?

Mr. Attlee

I would refer my hon. Friend to the statement made in reply to a similar Question by the hon. Member for Cheltenham (Mr. Lipson) on 30th July.
