HC Deb 02 December 1941 vol 376 cc995-6
37. Mr. McKinlay

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware that large quantities of cooked pressed beef are being sold by Lewis's Royal Polytechnic, Limited, Glasgow, at a price of 3s. 8d. per lb., until recently 4s. per lb., when the price of the best cooked brisket, a superior article, is only 2s. 8d. per lb.; if the pressed beef referred to is canned meat; if it is imported or home-produced; and whether it falls under the Canned Goods (Prohibition of Retail Sales) Order, 1941?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food (Major Lloyd George)

I am not aware of the nature and source of the supplies of cooked pressed beef referred to by my hon. Friend, but I have arranged for inquiries to be made by the local officers of my Department.
