§ 41. Mr. J. Griffithsasked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been called to the report of the Welsh National Memorial Association, indicating a deficiency of 400 beds for waiting tuberculosis cases in the Principality; and what steps are being taken to provide additional accommodation?
§ Mr. E. BrownI have seen a Press report that a statement was made at a recent meeting of the Welsh National Memorial Association to the effect indicated by my hon. Friend. The question of increasing the number of beds at present available in Wales and elsewhere is under active consideration in my Department.
§ Mr. GriffithsWhen does the Minister think a decision will be reached, in view of the fact that these 400 cases are awaiting treatment?
§ Mr. BrownI must point out that I do not accept responsibility for the accuracy of that figure. I simply say that I am aware that the statement has been made.
Dr. SxmmerskillDoes the Minister appreciate that while these 400 patients are awaiting admission they are infecting their families?
§ Mr. BrownThe hon. Lady apparently accepts the figure as accurate. I have seen the statement, but I cannot accept responsibility for the figure.
§ Mr. GriffithsWas the figure not stated in the report of a responsible body?
