HC Deb 05 August 1941 vol 373 c1785
46. Sir Arnold Gridley

asked the Prime Minister whether he will consider relieving the Minister of War Transport, who was appointed in order that the control of war time communications should be brought under the undivided direction of a single Minister, of the burden of the responsibilities in connection with electricity which were among the functions of the Minister of Transport?

Mr. Attlee

It was always the intention of my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister that certain functions of the former Ministry of Transport should be transferred to the Board of Trade or other Departments, and he has now arranged for the responsibilities referred to to be transferred to the Board of Trade. This arrangement will not, of course, preclude consideration at some later stage of a more comprehensive realignment of Departmental responsibilities for fuel and power services.
