§ 16. Mr. Horabin
asked the President of the Board of Trade what are the various steps British export merchants should take to enable them to export steel sheets, bars, plates, etc., of American origin, to the. Colonies?
§ Sir A. Duncan
No steel sheets, bars, plates, etc., of American origin may be re-exported from this country. An export merchant receiving a commercial order from a Colony may, provided that a Colonial import licence has been granted, apply through the Colonial Office quoting the import licence number. When the essentiality of the export has been confirmed, the Board of Trade places the merchant in touch with the agent in this country through whom all orders must be transmitted to the British Purchasing Commission.
