HC Deb 08 April 1941 vol 370 c1402
31. Mr. Lipson

asked the Secretary of State for War whether members of the Home Guard are expected to carry their civilian gas masks in areas where no Service ones have been issued?

Mr. Law

Yes, Sir.

Mr. Lipson

When will all units of the Home Guard be supplied with Service gas masks?

Mr. Law

I cannot say, but we are making every effort to supply them as soon as possible.

Mr. Mander

Are the Home Guard to proceed at the double in civilian gas masks?

39. Sir George Broadbridge

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that recently men, posing as officers of the Home Guard and dressed in uniforms similar to that body, visited the homes of various Home Guard members in their absence and persuaded the womenfolk to hand over rifles and ammunition; and what steps are being taken to prevent any recurrence?

Mr. Law

I have so far been unable to discover any foundation for the report to which my hon. Friend refers.

Sir F. Sanderson

Would the hon. Gentleman consider whether it would be advisable for members of the Home Guard to have numbers affixed to them?
