HC Deb 08 April 1941 vol 370 c1408
61. Mr. Kenneth Lindsay

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the average age of children in the camp schools; and how many places are not filled?

Mr. Johnston

Most of the children at present in the camps are between the ages of eight and twelve, but plans are under consideration to use part of the accommodation in three of the camps for boys of from 12 to 14. Out of approximately 1,300 places available in the five camps, 534 were not filled on 5th April, 1941. Almost half of the vacant places are at Belmont Camp, Dundee, which had to be temporarily vacated following damage to the water supply system due to severe weather.
