HC Deb 08 April 1941 vol 370 cc1411-2
49. Mr. Creech Jones

asked the Lord President of the Council whether, in view of the large grant to the British Film Institute from the Cinematograph Fund created by the Sunday Entertainments Act, 1932, he exercises any control in respect to the general policy and activities of the Institute; and whether he can indicate the part the Institute is playing In the national effort?

The Lord President of the Council (Sir John Anderson)

The policy of the British Film Institute, so long as that body is in receipt of grants from the Cinematograph Fund, must be in accordance with the objects to which the Fund is to be applied under the Sunday Entertainments Act, 1932. The Privy Council, who are charged with the administration of the Fund, are satisfied that the general policy adopted by the Governors is designed to promote those objects and that the Institute is endeavouring, within the limits imposed by Statute, to contribute to the national effort.
