§ 58. Mr. Lipsonasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware that certain schools which provide midday meals are experiencing a difficulty in obtaining supplies from the usual sources and that this is also hampering the extension of school dinners; and whether he will arrange for school authorities to obtain what they require by direct supply through the local food executive officer, when circumstances make this desirable?
Major Lloyd GeorgeI am aware that some schools have experienced difficulty in obtaining supplies of meat, but I have no information to indicate that difficulty has arisen regarding other foodstuffs. Supplies of food are normally furnished to schools through trade channels and it is not practicable to depart from that procedure, but if my hon. Friend has any particular schools in mind I shall be glad to make inquiries.
§ Mr. LipsonWhat is the objection, since local authorities are getting this food direct through the local food offices for their communal restaurants, to the schools being able to get their food from the same source?
