HC Deb 03 April 1941 vol 370 c1149
23. Mr. T. Smith

asked the Home Secretary whether he can now make a statement about the membership and terms of reference of the proposed committee on police widows' pensions?

Mr. H. Morrison

I have now set up this Committee, and I am glad to be able to announce that I have been fortunate enough to obtain the services of Lord Snell as Chairman, of my hon. Friends the Member for the Brightside Division of Sheffield (Mr. Marshall), the Senior Member for the English Universities (Miss Rathbone) and the Member for Orkney and Shetland (Major Neven-Spence), and of the Government Actuary (Mr. G. S. W. Epps, C.B., C.B.E.) as members of the Committee. The terms of reference of the Committee are to review the provision made by the Police Pensions Act, 1921, for the payment of pensions, allowances and gratuities to the widows, children and dependants of members of the Police Force.

Mr. Smith

May we take it that the Committee will lose no time in getting down to the problem?

Mr. Morrison

I am very anxious, in view of the fact that the matter has been under discussion for a long time, that the Committee shall proceed as quickly as possible, and I am sure Lord Snell will do everything he can in that direction.
