§ 11. Mr. Gordon Macdonaldasked the Minister of Labour what action he proposes to take for the reabsorption into industry of the displaced juvenile labour, consequent upon the curtailment of non-essential industries?
§ Mr. BevinThe measures for the re-absorption of displaced labour outlined in recent announcements will apply to juveniles as well as to adults. My hon. Friend will appreciate that in addition to the expanding requirements of war production, the calling-up of young men for the Forces causes a demand for juveniles as substitutes. I will, however, keep a special watch on this matter.
§ Mr. MacdonaldWill the right hon. Gentleman keep in mind the fact that this affects Lancashire to an extraordinary degree?
§ Mr. BevinYes, Sir, I am aware of that, and in view of the effects of the concentration of industry on young people I have directed that special consideration be given to this case.
§ Mr. Robert GibsonHave any steps been taken by my right hon. Friend towards the absorption into industry of golf caddies who are not now required?
