HC Deb 17 September 1940 vol 365 c113
53. Mr. Glenvil Hall

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is now in a position to indicate the extent to which the Regulations have been relaxed in order to permit local officers of assistance boards to make payments of compensation where war damage has not exceeded £5?

The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir Kingsley Wood)

As I informed the hon. Member on 22nd August, I have reconsidered the arrangement whereby, hitherto, immediate payments for war damage to essential household furniture and personal clothing have been limited to cases where the total damage exceeds £5. Instructions are now being given to assistance board officers to admit claims in excess of £1.
