HC Deb 17 September 1940 vol 365 c111
46. Captain Anstruther-Gray

asked the Prime Minister who is now responsible for deciding whether the benefit to public morale at home and abroad of releasing news for publication does or does not outweigh the importance to the Fighting Forces of maintaining secrecy?

Mr. Attlee

Where the release of news involves security considerations, the Censorship Division of the Ministry of Information is bound to act in accordance with the instructions it receives from the Service Department or Departments concerned. The responsibility to which my hon. and gallant Friend refers rests therefore with these Departments.
