HC Deb 23 October 1940 vol 365 c1042
39. Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the Prime Minister whether he is now in a position to make a statement on the Government's policy in connection with the establishment of a Ministry of Building, in view of the urgent need for a comprehensive national scheme of demolition squads, clearing, planning, repairing and rebuilding?

40. Mr. Craven-Ellis

asked the Prime Minister whether the newly appointed Minister of Works and Buildings will be vested with authority enabling him to recommend to Parliament amendments to the Restriction of Ribbon Development Act, 1935, of which Section 1 permits land to be sterilised for a contemplated road which may never be proceeded with; and, if it is, undue delay is incurred before a final decision is taken and compensation paid which in the meantime causes owners of land considerable inconvenience and financial hardship?

The Lord Privy Seal (Mr. Attlee)

I would ask the hon. Members to await the statement which it is hoped to make on the next Sitting day.
