HC Deb 22 October 1940 vol 365 cc931-2
35. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether, in connection with the subsidisation of essential foodstuffs, he will state the amount or percentage of the total subsidy which is allocated to bread throughout the country?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade (Major Lloyd George)

I have been asked to reply. The proportion of flour used for bread is not exactly known, but it can be estimated that approximately 25 per cent. of the total subsidy on essential foodstuffs goes at present to bread.

Mr. De la Bère

In view of my hon. and gallant Friend's friendly approach to this matter at an earlier hour to-day, I will not press the matter now.
