HC Deb 17 October 1940 vol 365 c818
46. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will now confer with the Minister of Food with a view to considering revising the present prices for pigs which have recently been adversely revised against the interests of the pig producer?

The Minister of Agriculture (Mr. R. S. Hudson)

No, Sir.

Mr. De la Bère

If it is necessary owing to the shortage of feeding-stuffs, then it is necessary, but is it necessary to do it in this way? Is my right hon. Friend aware that the present prices are below the cost of production, and will he do something to assist these farmers, who are struggling patriotically to assist the country in every possible manner?

Mr. Hudson

Yes, Sir, present prices are taken into account.

Mr. De la Bère

But the fact remains that present market prices are below the cost of production.
