HC Deb 16 October 1940 vol 365 c685
18. Mr. Ammon

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether the use of the Dover lifeboat has been suspended on the advice of the Admiralty, and for what reason?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty (Sir Victor Warrender)

The rescue work undertaken by naval vessels at Dover has reduced the need for the services of the lifeboat, and the naval authorities have, therefore, asked the Royal National Lifeboat Institution to consider whether she could be employed to better use elsewhere.
