§ 18. Mr. J. Griffithsasked the Home Secretary whether he will consider the advisability of restricting the use, after black-out times, of roads so situated that the lights of motor cars cast their beams out to sea?
§ Mr. MabaneMy right hon. Friend does not think it would be practicable to restrict the use of roads leading to the sea. He is, however, proposing to require the further dimming of vehicle side-lights, and this will have the effect of reducing very considerably the distance at which these lights are visible.
§ Mr. Griffithskill the hon. Gentleman bear in mind that there have been incidents which have led people living on the coast to believe that their position has been indicated by the tights of passing cars, and that there is a certain amount of strong feeling in the matter?
§ Mr. MabaneYes, Sir. I am well. aware of the anxiety, particularly in Wales and the West country in this matter. I can assure the hon. Gentleman that every effort will be made to ensure that no guidance will be given to enemy aircraft by the display of lights of this character.
§ Mr. LoftusWould the hon. Gentleman draw the attention of the War Office to the regulations restricting the use of such lights?
§ Mr. MabaneYes, Sir.
