§ 24. Mr. Denvilleasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that Mrs. M. Robinson, of 15, Westfield Drive, Kenton, Middlesex, had an allotment made to her 16 weeks ago by her son, Private R. C. Robinson, No. 1557964, Royal Engineers, Battery Squad, Waterloo Barracks, West Aldershot, but that she is in dire need, not having received anything; and what action does he propose to take?
§ Mr. LawI have not yet received a final report on this case. A claim was received from the soldier on 1st October, that is, a little more than one week ago. This is now under investigation, and, in the meantime, Mrs. Robinson is receiving the soldier's allotment of one shilling a day. I am informed that a claim for 359 dependant's allowance made by Mrs. Robinson in July could not be proceeded with because the soldier was not then desirous of making a claim or willing to make a contributory allotment.
§ Mr. DenvilleDid not my hon. Friend receive a letter on the subject 3½ weeks ago?
§ Mr. LawYes, Sir, I did receive a letter, and the case is being investigated. As far as the investigation has proceeded, the reply is the result.
§ Mr. George GriffithsIs not 3½ weeks a very short time so far as the War Office is concerned?
