§ 10. Mr. J. P. Morrisasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that Army pensioners who enlisted under a three-years' agreement to act as instructors to militiamen and who subsequently were granted commissions in His Majesty's Forces have had their military pension stopped notwithstanding an assurance given on re-enlistment that such pension would not be interfered with; and what action he proposes to take in the matter?
§ The Secretary of State for War (Mr. Eden)The assurance given related to service as re-enlisted soldiers. Commissions were offered to these pensioners under different conditions, which involved suspension of pension, and when taking commissions they signed a statement accepting such conditions. These officers, however, have since been given the opportunity of having their pensions restored to them from the outbreak of the war, on condition that they undertake a general service liability.
