HC Deb 20 November 1940 vol 365 c1983
Mr. Parker

asked the Minister of Supply what steps have been taken to utilise the sawdust waste from sawmills.

Sir A. Duncan

The utilisation of waste sawdust has been the subject of investigation and experiment in different sections of industry; and I am informed that as a result, waste sawdust is being used to some extent in the manufacture of concrete and in building board. Investigation is continuing as to its use in the manufacture of plastics and of pulp for paper-making. The wood ash resulting from the burning of sawdust and wood shavings contains a percentage of potash, which is a valuable fertiliser; and, in conjunction with the Minister of Agriculture, I have taken steps to stimulate this use of waste sawdust.
