§ 49. Mr. Woodburnasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, under the proposed war insurance for property, it is proposed also to require a share of the contributions to be paid by all ground landlords, mortgagors, etc., who will automatically have their risks covered by the national scheme?
§ The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir Kingsley Wood)I would ask my hon. Friend to await further details of the scheme which I hope to announce in the near future.
§ Mr. WoodburnIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that when he introduces the scheme it will probably be too late to take into consideration this important matter, and will he consider it before he introduces the scheme?
§ Sir K. WoodCertainly I will do so, but I do not think it will be too late. The matter is somewhat complicated, as the hon. Gentleman will appreciate.
§ Mr. ThorneWill the right hon. Gentleman expedite the matter?
§ Sir K. WoodAll expedition is being made in this matter; in any event, the conditions will be retrospective.
§ 51. Mr. Lathanasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in connection with the proposed scheme for war risks insurance, arrangements will be made to consult with the national organisation representing the 20,000 employés concerned, as well as with the representatives of the insurance companies?
§ Sir K. WoodI do not think that the Government's plans are likely to affect the interests of the employés referred to, but I will bear my hon. Friend's suggestion in mind.
