HC Deb 05 November 1940 vol 365 c1194
67. Rear-Admiral Beamish

asked the Home Secretary whether as the Government have laid down that it is the duty of the civil authorities to fill in bomb craters, more particularly in agricultural land, gardens and open country, he will instruct the appropriate departments to organise and put this work in hand immediately?

Mr. Mabane

I have nothing to add to the reply which my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture gave to a Question asked by my hon. and gallant Friend on 24th October.

Rear-Admiral Beamish

Is my hon. Friend aware that to all intents and purposes nothing is being done, either in this city or in the countryside, and that some pressure must be brought upon the civil authorities to get something done? There is a rapidly-growing impression that some members of the Government have no interest in these questions, and enjoy the policy of having no seats to their trousers.

Mr. Mabane

As a matter of fact, as my hon. and gallant Friend is concerned about food production, the Minister of Agriculture is the Minister to whom he should address his question.
