§ 18. Mr. Ernest Evansasked the Secretary of State for War whether the promise given by his Department that Welsh soldiers should be allowed to write home in the Welsh language from all theatres of war is being observed; or whether the arrangement ever breaks down in practice because of the absence of Welshmen on the staff of the field censors?
§ Mr. LawThere has been a Welsh-speaking censor with the British Expeditionary Force since the middle of October last, and there are arrangements for the censorship in this country of letters written in Welsh from other theatres. Since the appointment of the Welsh speaking censor in France, only one case has been brought to notice of a letter which was mistakenly returned to the writer by reason of the fact that it was written in Welsh.
