HC Deb 28 May 1940 vol 361 c415
54. Mr. Liddall

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether disciplinary action will be taken against Departments or their staffs in whose operations the Select Committee on National Expenditure discovered causes of actual or potential waste which were not removed until pointed out by the Select Committee?

Captain Crookshank

It would in my view be impracticable to give an undertaking in such general terms as are suggested by my hon. Friend, but the House can rest fully assured that serious cases of waste, whether discovered by the Select Committee or otherwise, will be appropriately dealt with.
