§ 19. Mr. Lewisasked the Secretary of State for War whether he will consider the desirability of arming the men of all home service anti-aircraft batteries with rifles or other suitable weapons as a protection against attack by parachute troops or enemy agents operating in this country?
§ Mr. ShinwellIs the hon. Gentleman aware that in many cases members of anti-aircraft batteries have had little or no training in the use of a rifle? Is it not desirable that they should? Do I understand that arrangements are being made to institute rifle practice at once?
§ Mr. LawYes, Sir. Arrangements are being made and will be continuous to give anti-aircraft batteries all the practice desirable.
§ Mr. Glenvil HallMay I ask whether proper safeguards will be taken to see that rifles and ammunition do not get into the wrong hands?
