HC Deb 01 May 1940 vol 360 c686
12. Mr. Simmonds

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he can make any statement as to the physical fitness of men who have presented themselves for service as pilots in the Royal Air Force during the last two months?

Sir S. Hoare

The standard of physical fitness of the candidates for pilot duties remains satisfactory, and the high medical standard is not proving a limiting factor in securing the numbers of pilots required.

Mr. Simmonds

Can my right hon. Friend assure the House that the standard which the Ministry require has not been reduced since the outbreak of war?

Sir S. Hoare

Yes, Sir. We have been maintaining intact the present very high standard and we are still getting all the recruits we want.
