HC Deb 01 May 1940 vol 360 cc717-8
63. Mr. Dingle Foot

asked the Minister of Supply whether he will cause a regulation to be made extending to the "Radio Times," the "Listener" and other publications controlled by the British Broadcasting Corporation the arrangement voluntarily entered into by the rest of the Press for the avoidance of waste, whereby periodicals are no longer to be supplied by newsagents on a sale-or-return basis?

Mr. Burgin

The British Broadcasting Corporation have informed me that this and other measures to effect economy in the use of paper are now under consideration by them.

Mr. Foot

Will the Minister press the necessity of these journals falling in with the rest of the Press?

Mr. Burgin

These journals have gone rather farther, and have materially reduced their size, effecting a greater saving in newsprint than the reform suggested by the hon. Gentleman.

Mr. Foot

Is there any reason why they should not follow a perfectly easy and convenient arrangement?
