§ 27. Mr. Maxtonasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that 28 new houses in Dundee built for slum-clearance purposes, and urgently needed for that purpose, have been taken over for the purpose of billeting soldiers; whether this is a temporary arrangement; and whether more suitable alternative accommodation will be found in that area?
§ Mr. StanleyI am informed that it was necessary to take these houses because no other suitable accommodation is available, and that the agreement of the local civil authorities was obtained.
§ Mr. MaxtonIs this a temporary arrangement, or is it likely to continue for some period?
§ Mr. StanleyI cannot, of course, answer that question definitely. I think it is likely to continue for some period. I cannot hold out any hope that while it is necessary, for military purposes, that those soldiers should be there, there is any other accommodation which would be suitable.
§ Mr. DenvilleHas anyone in the district complained about it?
