HC Deb 19 March 1940 vol 358 cc1801-2
37. Vice-Admiral Taylor

asked the Secretary for Mines what arrangements are being made to enable members of His Majesty's Forces on short leave from service afloat or overseas, who will be granted a three weeks' licence, to be provided with petrol on their arrival on leave; what instructions will be given to the rationing authorities; and who will these rationing officers be?

Mr. Lloyd

Arrangements for giving effect to the three weeks' licence duty concession including the arrangements for the provision of petrolare under discussion between the Departments concerned, but have not yet been finally settled. I hope that it will be possible for a statement to be made very shortly.

Vice-Admiral Taylor

Is my hon. Friend aware of the urgency of a decision in this matter, as it is of the greatest importance to all concerned that they should get their petrol rations immediately they return on leave?

Mr. Lloyd

Yes, Sir, I agree with my hon. and gallant Friend, but he will see that a certain amount of Departmental consultation is necessary to secure the most convenient way for all concerned.

Vice-Admiral Taylor

I hope that it will be expedited.

Mr. Perkins

Can my hon. Friend tell the House whether this privilege will be extended to members of the R.A.F. on operational duties in this country?
