Sir Reginald Blairasked the Secretary of State for War whether despatch riding on motor vehicles is part of the training of the Armed Forces; and, if not, will he, in collaboration with the Air Ministry, in order to reduce waste, request transport officers in all home units to see that, where possible, the telephone and letter post are used before motor vehicles are sent out for non-essential despatch riding and similar purposes?
§ Mr. StanleyThe answer to the first part of the Question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, despatch riders are used only when other means of communication are not suitable, and I am informed that this applies equally in the Royal Air Force.
