§ 52. Mr. Loftusasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether payments into and from special sterling accounts opened in London by Swedish banks are open to supervision by the Treasury or Bank of England; or whether he will take steps to place these accounts under official supervision in order to ensure the carrying out of the terms of the Anglo-Swedish Payments Agreement?
§ 60. Mr. Hamilton Kerrasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why the Anglo-Swedish Payments Agreement, by virtue of which the proceeds of Swedish exports to this country must be spent on British goods or Empire goods, is subject to no supervision on the part of the British authorities; and whether, in view of the fact that the absence of supervision provides opportunity for evasion, he will take steps to remedy this state of affairs?
§ Sir J. SimonI am satisfied that the arrangements made are such as to secure that payments from the accounts referred to are supervised to the extent necessary to ensure the carrying out of the terms of the agreement.
