HC Deb 14 March 1940 vol 358 c1339
23. Mr. T. Smith

asked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of rising prices, he will extend the period of operation of the winter allowances made by the Unemployment Assistance Board?

Mr. E. Brown

No, Sir. I would refer the hon. Member to my reply to his Question of 7th March.

Mr. Smith

Does not the right hon. Gentleman think, in view of the times we live in, that this suggestion is worthy of consideration?

Mr. Brown

I will call the attention of the Board to the remarks of the hon. Member.

Mr. J. Griffiths

In view of the exceptional severity of this winter, could not the date on which this allowance ends be extended?

Mr. Brown

That is a matter for the Board to consider. I will call the attention of the Board to the hon. Member's suggestion.
