HC Deb 13 March 1940 vol 358 cc1189-90
55. Mr. Rostron Duckworth

asked the Minister of Food the nature of the schemes for inspecting meat under the new central slaughtering scheme; what expert staff has already been engaged and will be engaged; and whether he can give an assurance that the standard of meat inspection will be higher under the new scheme than the old?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

The inspection of meat under the Meat and Livestock Control Scheme is proceeding on the same lines as prior to the institution of control. As I stated on 8th February in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Yardley (Mr. Salt), I have appointed a technical adviser to the Ministry on health inspection of meat; consideration is being given to the desirability of extending the staff so engaged.
