HC Deb 13 March 1940 vol 358 cc1186-7
45. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Minister of Food whether he is aware that in certain districts throughout the country bread is at present being sold as low as 1d. per pound wholesale; and whether he can give some assurance that this bread is being manufactured from flour of a standard quality supplied at a standard price and furnishes the producers with any profit above the cost of production?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

I am informed that a firm of bakers in the North of England has started selling bread wholesale at 1d. per pound, but I am not in a position to say whether it is able to do so at a profit. As regards the second part of my hon. Friend's Question, no flour may be sold of a quality or at a price lower than national straightrun flour.
