HC Deb 12 March 1940 vol 358 cc974-5
6. Miss Wilkinson

asked the Secretary of State for War the names of the voluntary societies which are prepared to supply wool free of charge to approved women for knitting those comforts for the Armed Forces for which the Director of Wool Supplies appealed on the radio?

Mr. Stanley

I am unable to give a complete list, but I have obtained the names of four organisations which have supplied free wool, namely: The "Punch" Hospital Comforts Fund, The London Transport War Comforts Fund Association, The Buckinghamshire County Soldiers' Welfare and Free Wool Fund, The Derbyshire Soldiers' Comforts Association. In addition, I understand that many regimental associations and other county comforts associations have issued free wool for knitting purposes.

Mr. Robert Gibson

Has the right hon. Gentleman the names of any Scottish organisations on his list?

Captain Strickland

Will the Minister define what is meant by "approved women"?
