HC Deb 11 March 1940 vol 358 c823
35. Mr. Parker

asked the Secretary of State for War whether men are expected to pay for any necessary alterations to uniforms issued to them, or whether this is done out of the regimental funds; and whether chevrons have to be bought and sewn on when earned?

Sir V. Warrender

The regulations provide that all necessary alterations to uniforms of other ranks should be carried out at the public expense; and that authorised chevrons should be provided and sewn on at the public expense.
